This book describes the design, construction, and testing of the experimental UNIVERSE information technology network and outlines the project's organization. Project UNIVERSE was developed in the early 1980s by a consortium of industrial, university, and government laboratories. It involves the combination of broadcast satellite and local networking technologies to form an integrated communication system.
