"This edition is based on the manuscript collection of Dr. Alfred Einstein at Smith College. Of the eight songs all but one are taken from four volumes entitled Trastulli in the Staatsbibliothek at Munich where they were listed as of unknown authorship until Dr. Einstein identified them as a collection of opera and cantata pieces by Steffani. No. 7 is taken from a manuscript in the Biblioteca Estense at Modena entitled Sei Scherzi a voce sola con accomp. di pifferi o di violini. It is a part only of the fifth scherzo which is in itself a small cantata."--p.[8]
