- Joseph T. Buckingham's monthly Polyanthos was a well-illustrated miscellany which included interesting theater reviews. Royall Tyler, Buckingham, several clerical contributors, and other magazines supplied the contents, which were miscellaneous collections of poetry and romances, literary and theatrical news, book reviews, historical sketches, short items and anecdotes, and articles on mythology, fashions, and morals. A portrait appeared in each number; most were by Samuel Harris, and many were accompanied by biographical sketches -- Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
