- This is a work of furūʻ, "a commentary on the Mukhtaṣar of Muḥammad b. Muḥammad al-Marwazī (d. 334/945). [That work] in turn was an epitome of the works of Muḥammad b. al-Ḥasan al-Shaybānī, the foundational texts of the Ḥanafī tradition. Al-Sarakhsī reintroduced and explored the rules of al-Shaybānī, organizing his material around points of dispute and incorporating information related to local Ḥanafī tradition and other schools of law, apparently derived from oral transmission and local teaching practice"--Encycl. of Islam.
