The authorship of Mme. de La Motte, with the reputed assistance of the journalist Serres de Latour and the ex-minister Calonne, is doubtful. cf. Funck-Brentano, La mort de la reine, 1902, p. 111, etc.; L. de la Sicotière in Quérard, Supercheries, Paris, 1870, t. II, col. 647-649.
