Summary:
Agri-food sustainability-based ventures that have achieved significant success often must cross the valley of death (VOD) that is growing from a small number of delivered products and services to serving a larger market. This guide explores three problematic elements of the VOD that include lack of capital, flaws with the product or service value proposition (VP), and pressure from unmalleable external forces. Examples are drawn from stories of agri-food ventures that encountered the VOD with their sustainability-based endeavors. Many of these founders sought to address several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This guide provides strategies on how to overcome the VOD by utilizing venture mapping, pressure testing VPs, and mitigation planning for external forces.
