- Summary:
- This Data Challenge explores how public health officials can encourage people to adopt a mobile app designed to help control the spread of Mpox, a viral infectious disease. The case follows Olivia Smith, a community health worker, as she works to increase public trust and participation in the SafeContact MP app during an Mpox outbreak. Using survey data from 325 individuals, students examine how people differ in their attitudes toward the app, including concerns about privacy, trust in institutions, and willingness to protect others. The results show three types of people: those who do not trust the app, those who are concerned about privacy, and those who are confident and willing to use it. Students use these insights to develop targeted strategies to rebuild trust, address privacy concerns, and mobilize supportive users to encourage wider adoption. The Data Challenge demonstrates how data-driven insights can be used to design more effective community engagement strategies in public health. Students will benefit from a working knowledge of the Technology Acceptance Model, the Health Belief Model, value-based behavioral frameworks, and the fundamentals of exploratory factor analysis and cluster analysis. Familiarity with IBM SPSS or similar statistical software will support effective analysis and interpretation of the data.
