- Summary:
- A company's perspective on gender is a strategic factor that can enhance its economic, social, and environmental performance. This Guide examines how the integration of gender into sustainability frameworks can generate synergies among the economic, social, and environmental dimensions that have traditionally been treated as independent compartments. The analysis of organizations such as Natura & Co., Banco Santander Chile, and Bancolombia suggests that gender diversity in leadership positions correlates with greater innovation, more robust risk management, superior operational efficiency, and better environmental outcomes. The Guide starts with the 1987 Brundtland Report and briefly traces the history of gender and equity up to contemporary environmental, social, and governance (ESG) frameworks. It identifies three critical structural challenges: organizational silos that tend to fragment sustainability management, disintegrated metrics that may prevent capturing multidimensional correlations, and cultural resistance, which is particularly significant in Latin American contexts and traditional sectors such as mining. Best practices suggest that success may entail systemic transformations in governance structures, integrated measurement systems, and authentic organizational commitment. The findings suggest that gender integration in sustainability can be a strategic competitive advantage.
