- Discusses principles of incorporation analysis, which examine whether protections provided for in the first eight amendments of the Bill of Rights apply to State governments in the same manner that they directly apply to the Federal Government. Reviews early Supreme court cases addressing application of the Second Amendment to State governments. Summarizes recent Federal lower court appellate cases that addressed incorporation of the Second Amendment since decision in District of Columbia volume Heller, which held that the Second Amendment protects rights of individuals to possess firearms, unconnected to service in militias, and protects right to use that firearm for tradition lawful purposes such as self-defense within their homes. Examines Supreme Court decision in McDonald volume City of Chicago, which ruled that the Second Amendment applies to States; and analyzes remaining issues in aftermath of the decision
