A reissue of the first edition with a cancel titlepage and the addition of an index and 'Remarks on the letters', by Desfontaines and Pierre Brumoy, with separate titlepage and pagination.
In some copies, the cancelland titlepage survives and is bound at the beginning of the book text (p.[i-ii]), and the cancel titlepage and the index make up [16]p. following p.viii.
