- Summary:
- This dataset is designed for teaching the procedure of the paired-samples t-test to analyze difference between the means of variables in pairs. This dataset is original data collected by the author in 2019 in Montreal, in which 127 participants answered 20 questions about the importance of different items for democracy, measured on a scale from 0 to 4. There are two main purposes of this guide: first, to demonstrate what kind of research design can be applied in the analysis of perceptions, including the technique of data collection (a questionnaire with scales), the type of hypotheses that can be tested using such data (the hierarchical order of item means and whether there are statistically significant differences between them), and the type of statistical analysis (paired-samples t-test); and second, to allow students to practice a paired-samples t-test to compare means using appropriate data in SPSS. The implications of this guide include familiarization with the paired-samples t-test method, how to conduct it in SPSS, how to present the results, and its application to the study of opinions measured using scaled statements. Additionally, the guide may inspire students to apply the same research design in their future research. The dataset is accompanied by a teaching guide, a student guide, and a how-to guide for SPSS.
