Summary:
This dataset explains how to integrate two-stage principal component analysis, hierarchical cluster analysis, and nonhierarchical cluster analysis to propose an effective strategy for building territorial clusters that are maximally homogeneous within themselves and, at the same time, maximally heterogeneous from one another. The combined use of these three techniques addresses one of the main objectives of multivariate statistical analysis: to provide a simple representation of social phenomena. Thanks to this integrated strategy applied to ecological data, where the rows of the data matrix represent territories, the number of columns and rows is reduced, making the matrix more manageable. The dataset is elaborated by Istat (Italian Statistical Institute). The dataset file is accompanied by a Student Guide and a How-to Guide for creating an example of territorial clusters using SPSS software.
