Summary:

Research on East Asian international students suggests that acculturation and well-being jointly shape students’ adjustment in the host country. Drawing on acculturation theory, we conducted a quantitative study to examine these dynamics. This case study describes our efforts to maximize recruitment at a local university through an online survey and multiple incentives. Despite these efforts, the COVID-19 pandemic hindered recruitment. We reflect on these challenges, proposestrategies to address recruitment and data quality issues, and discuss study limitations and directions for future inquiry. Readers will learn how to set up research, the challenges that may arise, and strategies to overcome them, for example, addressing data quality issues caused by uncontrollable circumstances, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, when working with groups historically underrepresented in research.
