The following case study will highlight some of the considerations student researchers should make while planning to collect their data online. Some of these issues include the nature of the research question, whether it lends itself to online data collection, and whether researchers have the tools required to set up the methodology online. Ethical considerations in online data collection and the importance of knowing how data and participant identities are stored and protected will also be introduced. The forced-choice method of collecting data for face perception research used in the cited study will be explained. Further relevant resources will be provided to help researchers make decisions about online data collection.
