- Summary:
- This case study examines how Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) was adapted to explore entrepreneurial intentions among rural university students in Oman. While SCT is widely used, its application in collectivist tribal societies is limited. The research focused on self-efficacy, education, and skills, using a sample from Dhofar’s culturally distinct communities. An inclusive sampling strategy was employed, using geographic and clan-based identifiers to ensure rural authenticity. Survey tools were translated, pilot-tested, and adapted to reflect local meanings. Gender-sensitive fieldwork and paper-based surveys addressed access and literacy constraints. Findings indicate that self-efficacy is a strong predictor of entrepreneurial intention and a moderator of the effects of education and skills. This case highlights the importance of inclusive methods in extending the applicability of Western theories to underrepresented settings, providing insights for culturally grounded entrepreneurship research and ethical, context-sensitive research design.
