Summary:
The dataset in this example includes two verbatim transcripts (with minor edits for confidentiality and general readability) taken from a series of semistructured interviews on the topic of peer support training in postsecondary education. These transcripts were analyzed using a novel, innovative, and inclusive approach to qualitative data analysis method called “Reflexive Thematic Analysis” (RTA) (Braun & Clarke, 2021). The transcripts included in this guide were part of a series of semistructured interviews completed in Fall 2023. The first transcript demonstrates a “marked-up” (annotated) version, with in-line comments and annotations by the primary investigator (Zed-Ola Myers), demonstrating the process of qualitative coding and “theme” generation; and the second transcript is a clean version for students to practice on, while following the provided guide. The student will have the opportunity to see and follow the process of generating themes using RTA, and generate their own theme and further reflect on their role in knowledge production (Braun & Clark, 2019). The included dataset files (transcripts) are accompanied by a teaching guide and a student guide.
