This How-to Guide introduces Guidonian Hand notation combined with Kalisarmonia, a body-based music pedagogy inspired by the Minahasan kolintang tradition, as an arts-based and participatory method for enabling inclusive research participation among economically marginalized communities. Grounded in embodied cognition and informed by Minahasan cosmology (Telu Makasiow), the method translates melodic and harmonic structures into spatial, hand-based actions, allowing musical knowledge and research engagement to emerge through tactile, kinesthetic, and collective practice without instruments or formal musical literacy. The approach was developed and refined through participatory workshops with children and teachers from underprivileged families at Sekolah Gajahwong, Yogyakarta (2023–25), where embodied musical activities functioned not only as learning processes but also as sites of collaborative protocol adaptation and reflection. Within conditions of economic constraint, this How-to Guide demonstrates how informal documentation and iterative body-based practice can support ethical and nonextractive research design, enabling participants to contribute meaningfully to shaping research activities.
