Summary:

Many studies have been transitioned to be run online so that researchers can continue to collect data during the pandemic. This transition has been supported by the use of video conferencing and file-sharing tools. We describe four case studies of experiments that we would have run in person and are now running or have run online and highlight the advantages, disadvantages, and how-to's of these studies. In summary, what made our online studies possible was software that could be downloaded and run locally, a strong protocol for the experimenters, and piloting the online version. This approach may be useful in the future because it decreases participant travel time and supports a wider geographic and temporal range of participants.
