- Summary:
- The COVID-19 pandemic caused qualitative researchers to use virtual platforms more extensively than they had done in the past. This case study discusses how doctoral students who were completing their dissertations used the Zoom platform to conduct research that focused on social justice issues in education. It provides a historical backdrop of social justice leadership to help readers understand the significance of preparing educational leaders for social justice. Highlighted in this case study are the academic works that helped to evolve the social justice discourse in educational leadership preparation programs. In addition, this case study shows that social justice leadership discourse led to more qualitative research studies in educational leadership doctoral programs. As an example of the narrative research approach, it briefly explains how the Black Lives Matter Movement through digital media platforms is a form of this approach because it shares stories that would otherwise be muted. The final section details the advantages of using the Zoom platform to conduct narrative research and provides examples of how its use allowed doctoral students to cut cost, eliminate travel time, increase their sample size, and conduct research in a natural setting.
