- Summary:
- This case study employs a heuristic inquiry methodology to examine how Jamaican Canadian Immigrant Women (JCIW) of Pentecostal faith reconstruct their cultural identities. Drawing on original fieldwork, it addresses the methodological challenges of conducting sensitive, culturally informed inquiry with a nondominant faith group. To uphold cultural integrity and ethical sensitivity, I engaged in ongoing reflexive journaling; consulted community members, my research supervisor, and trusted colleagues; and performed iterative member checking to validate my interpretations. The investigation stresses the importance of researcher reflexivity, cultural humility, and building trust in research relationships. It also offers practical insights for students and established scholars working with diverse populations by showing how heuristic inquiry can navigate power dynamics, center participant voices, and promote ethically grounded, inclusive practice.
