This dataset introduces readers to analyzing multimodal data collected through the body mapping method. The learning material focuses on developing analytical practices that challenge dominant and marginalizing research paradigms. It also centers inclusive and self-reflexive analysis.The provided exemplar is drawn from data collected as part of a qualitative, arts-based research project. This project explored the embodied experiences of equity practitioners in Australian higher education using body mapping.The dataset comprises photographs of two participants’ body maps and excerpts from accompanying transcripts of the body mapping sessions. Body maps were analyzed using a custom-built matrix in Microsoft Excel and transcripts were analyzed using NVivo software. Samples of analysis matrices, each with selected examples of coded data from the exemplar body maps, have also been included.Readers will gain a comprehensive understanding of how to navigate iterative analysis of large volumes of multimodal data while preserving the depth and nuance arts-based methods afford. The guide supports researchers to adopt an “ethics in practice” approach (Guillemin & Gillam, 2004, p. 262) and develop practical strategies for engaging in inclusive and ethical research. The dataset file is accompanied by a teaching guide, a student guide and how-to guide.
