- Summary:
- This research took place in a public higher education institution in the United States. The methodological and practical challenges of designing an original survey instrument and conducting a concurrent mixed methods research study on a sensitive topic are explored. This study addresses a 2022 study on the topic of preservice teacher perceptions of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and addressed a gap in research literature on trauma-informed education for educator preparation programs (EPPs). Conducted as an interdisciplinary inquiry across social work and teacher education, the study at one EPP has implications for how other EPPs could address ACEs for preservice teachers prior to student teaching. Readers will learn to recognize key principles of conducting a concurrent mixed methods research study with a survey instrument on a sensitive topic.
