- This first part of the guide introduces the concept of researcher positionality as an integral aspect of research reflexivity and inclusive research practice. We introduce the concept of researcher’s positionality, the different aspects that compose one’s positionality, and how this affects the research process. Positionality is approached as an iterative, situated, relational, and dynamic configuration that shifts in encounters and across different research phases. Drawing on decolonial, Indigenous, care-based, and intersectional feminist epistemological perspectives, the guide offers a framework for understanding the multiple dimensions that make up a researcher’s positionality and how this shapes the research process. By foregrounding reflexive awareness, an ethics of care, and relational accountability, the guide aims to support researchers in understanding the workings of positionality within inclusive research practices that attend to power, knowledge production, and care in research relationships.
