Summary:

This dataset presents a creative participant-generated approach to data analysis of cognitive interviews through concept mapping and user-story mapping. This exemplar, provided by Cassandra Stewart and her mentor, Dr. Angela Uriyo, in her 2024 thesis “Assessment of Instrument Exploring Underwear Preferences of Incontinent Geriatric Women in Assisted Living,” was conducted at West Virginia University. Concept mapping is a reasonable standalone or integrated data analysis for qualitative methods. In this example, we see how the analysis draws attention to the individual preference while also capturing similarities and differences among the collective without diminishing the personal voice. Through inclusive methodologies, the research explored two research questions: (1) Can the instrument meet various cognitive levels of geriatric residents? (2) Can we accurately describe underwear preferences? Readers will be encouraged to enter interviews open-minded, allowing the narratives of their participants to frame the thematic codes and reveal the collective individual preferences in the subject they choose to explore in their research. The dataset file is accompanied by a teaching guide, a student guide, and how-to guide.
