- This case study presents insights from a participatory research project codesigned with Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (2SLGBTQ+) youth, exploring their sexuality education (SE) needs. This research was conducted as a weekend workshop where 22 mostly 2SLGBTQ+ youth came together to watch SE video lessons, participate in discussions about their SE needs, and evaluate the content of the lessons through both written feedback and the creation of memes. Our methodology aimed to center youth voices, foster culturally relevant engagement, and challenge traditional evaluation tools. While our meme-based approach led to high levels of enthusiasm from participants, it also revealed practical challenges that must be navigated with care and intention. This case study offers valuable lessons about the complexities of adopting creative, arts-based methods in youth-led research, the importance of careful planning, and the need for flexibility when engaging equity-deserving youth. This case study will be useful for researchers interested in participatory and arts-based methodologies, particularly those working with marginalized young people. Readers will gain insight into designing inclusive research environments, using memes to elicit data, and navigating ethical considerations when working with youth. This study emphasizes the need to approach participatory methods with curiosity, flexibility, and a willingness to learn from participants throughout the research process.
