Summary:

This dataset elaborates on the rationale behind, processes implemented and insights gained in analysing qualitative interview data characterised by multiple subjectivities. The interview data is derived from a larger mixed methods study that evaluated the effectiveness of the intentional pedagogies, used in short-term study trip programmes of a residential college within an Asian university, on student learning. Guided by experiential learning frameworks, these study trips to various locations in Asia, Europe and Africa have been conducted since 2012 by different faculty-student teams. A key intentional pedagogy in these programmes has been the collaboration with diverse overseas partners from organisations, institutions and businesses in designing engaging activities to help students learn about different social, economic, political and cultural issues. The interviews were conducted with these overseas partners using one common questionnaire by the team members associated with the respective study trip programme.Given the possibility of sample bias in the partner interviews conducted and analysed by different sub-teams, it raised questions on thematising across different interviews where stories and sharings are contextual and triangulating the findings when interpretations are hyper-subjective. To address the hyper-subjectivities in our study we created new layers of in-depth analysis through data reduction processes and quasi-quantitative analysis (Maxwell & Chmiel, 2014) to draw authentic inferences from this complex qualitative data pool. This dataset documents these methodological layers to highlight the importance of such meta-analyses in a large team of qualitative researchers to manage hyper-subjectivity and derive insightful interpretations. The dataset file is accompanied by a teaching guide and a student guide.
