Drawing on original qualitative research conducted at a predominantly white institution (PWI), this case study explores how risk, identity, and structural vulnerability intersect to shape digital sexual expression among Black women, gay men, and young trans and nonbinary individuals. Unlike much of the existing literature, which often treats sexting as a relatively uniform or monolithic behavior, this project is intentionally designed to explore how sexting is experienced at the intersections of race, gender identity, and sexual orientation. The central methodological challenge addressed in this case study is the need to capture the nuance of intersectional experience while mitigating the risks of reifying stereotypes or treating marginalized voices as peripheral. Readers will gain practical insight into intersectional research design, inclusive data collection practices, and strategies for navigating sensitive topics such as sexuality, embodiment, and digital risk.
