- Notes:
- "In the excitement following Morocco's independence in 1956, artist-teachers and students at the Casablanca Art School (CAS) radically rethought art and art education in their country. Beyond the core group (Farid Belkahia, Mohammed Chabâa, Bert Flint, Toni Maraini, Mohammed Melehi), a whole constellation of artist-activists drew on both Moroccan and Afro-Amazigh heritage in the creation of new forms of abstract art. Introducing art into everyday life, they prodiced paintings, posters, magazines, interior designs, murals and street exhibitions, while also cultivating political solidarity with other countries in Africa and South America. Edited by Maud Houssais, Fatima-Zahra Lakrissa, Madeleine de Colnet and Morad Montazami, this anthology brings together the foundingl texts of this cosmopolitan movement, together with accounts by key figures from the period and a vast collection of previously unpublished archives. It features a large number of authors who were instrumental in writing Moroccan cultural history (Salma Lahlou, Léa Morin, Khalil M'Rabet, Katarzyna Pieprak, Kenza Sefrioui)"--Page 4 of cover.
