Summary:
"Defined as a three-dimensional, immersive, and unified virtual world, the Metaverse and virtual worlds in general have been considered to be the Internet of tomorrow at various times, where people in the form of avatars would interact with each other and consume both digital and hybrid products and services. Famously, Mark Zuckerberg renamed his company and invested billions to chase that dream in recent years. Although the hype around the Metaverse in particular has begun to decline, virtual, augmented, and mixed reality are still relevant. Such hype cycles have come and gone before in this very space; in 2003 the virtual world Second Life made its name, only for its hype to fade -- even so, there were insights to derive from it regarding social media more broadly"-- Provided by publisher
