- Summary:
- "Published in 2013, First Migrants was the first textbook to ever chart global human migration and population dispersal throughout the whole of human prehistory in all regions of the world. This is a truly multidisciplinary textbook, with data drawn from archaeology, comparative linguistics, and biological anthropology, including genetics, which made a considerable impact on the market (4,500 copies sold and a Google Scholar citation score of 283). Ten years later, studies of ancient population migration based on analysis of DNA at genomic level are more popular than ever. So are major developments in archaeological science (dating methods, isotope studies, raw material sourcing, and plant and animal domestication), as well as in understanding the phylogenies of language families. The proposed new edition will therefore consist of a meticulous revision of data sources and explore the interconnections between archaeology, linguistics, and human biology in the broadest sense in light of the most recent developments in the fields. All chapters will be rewritten, illustrations will be replaced, maps and tables updated, and the bibliography brought up-to-date by adding new references, aiming for 20-30% of new, original content. A new edition survey is currently out to identify other areas that could benefit from an update. Aimed at general readers and students, as well as specialists, this new edition will appeal archaeologists and other human scientists interested in the topic and engaged in the extraction of data using rapidly evolving scientific techniques"-- Provided by publisher.
