- Biography/History:
- Jan Dibbets (b. 1941, Weert, Netherlands) is a leading Dutch visual artist known for his exploration of perception and space. His work is characterized by the use of photography to distort reality through "perspective corrections." After studying in Tilburg and London--where he encountered representatives of Land Art--he abandoned painting and achieved his international breakthrough with conceptual photography and his "Plough Projects." His works are represented in major museums worldwide.
- Summary:
- "In 1966, Jan Dibbets had yet to build a résumé as an artist. A series of chance encounters soon set him on a defining path, opening the door to early exhibitions in Amsterdam, where he showed a form of abstraction that would evolve into groundbreaking work. He emerged as a catalyst, bridging artists, curators, and institutions across Europe and the United States. At the same time, he pushed the boundaries of perception through ephemeral installations and photographic explorations of perspective, light, and time. This book traces the decade in which serendipity and invention intertwined, revealing an artist who transformed photography and expanded our understanding of vision itself."--Provided by publisher.
