Biography/History:

Annie Oakley was an American sharpshooter who performed with the Buffalo Bill show. In 1904, William Randolph Hearst published a false story that Oakley had been arrested for shoplifting. Over the next few years, Oakley sued Hearst along with other newspapers that published their own versions of the false story and was largely victorious.

Summary:

Typed letter, reporting on Oakley's victory in court over the Hearst newspaper, describing some of the court proceedings and the amount awarded to Oakley ($27,500). Sent while en route on the Pennsylvania Limited; the letter is typed on Pennsylvania Limited letterhead with image of train and text reading "dictated to the official stenographer."
