- Compiler's preface signed: M.B.D. This may have been Mary B. Dinsmoor; cf. University of Vermont record. However a letter from one of the deceased's friends was addressed to "My dear sir", presumably the compiler, so this may be incorrect.
- Contains poetic works, including a hymn, "Nearer home," by Phoebe Cary or Carey (p. 41-42), and George Ingersoll's poem, "'Keene as it was; Keene as it is' : Centennial Day" (p. [53]-64). The latter item was read at the Centennial celebration of the acceptance of the New Hampshire charter of the town of Keene, May 26, 1853.
