- An account of the fictional murder of Charles Steward and his wife.
- Two issues noted. In the 1850 issue, the murderer is named Eliza Dawson (b. 1820), she murders the Stewards and is tried in 1849, the "Confession" begins on p. 20, and the last paragraph purports to be from Sheriff C.H. White. In this, the 1851 issue, the murderer is named Eliza Wilson (b. 1824), she murders the Stewards and is tried in 1851, the "Confession" begins on p. 21, and the last paragraph purports to be from Rev. Mr. Hopper. The first five lines of the "Confession" differ in setting between the two issues, and the 1851 issue lacks the illustration on p. 21.
- Probably a fictitious imprint. There is no J.B. Finnerty listed in Nova Scotia newspapers: a directory and union list, 1752-1988. The proprietor of the Morning courier: parliamentary reporter, and literary gazette (Halifax, N.S., Oct. 2,1847-1849?) was John Henry Crosskill (1817-1857).
