- New York copyright 1842 by Cale[b] Bartlett. Bishop Davenport, an author and publisher initially operating in Trenton, New Jersey ca. 1834-1835, and then in Philadelphia with the firm B. Davenport & Co. ca. 1836-1839, is listed in extant Cincinnati directories beginning in 1846. Davenport is listed in Cincinnati directories through at least 1851; a Cincinnati directory for 1852 was not available; Davenport is not listed in the 1853 Cincinnati directory. John H. Mellor is listed in extant Pittsburgh directories as the proprietor of a book and music store between 1839 and 1860. California is listed as one of the United States on p. 35. California was admitted as a state in 1850.
