"On May 14, 2018, the seventieth anniversary of Israel's establishment, American and Israeli diplomats, politicians, clergy, and communal leaders gathered at a ceremony in Jerusalem. Together, they marked the relocation of the US embassy in Israel from its previous Tel Aviv setting to its new headquarters in Jerusalem's Talpiot neighborhood. Every detail of the ceremony expressed the premise that Jews' claim to Jerusalem was unambiguous and uncontested. The only American governmental representatives acknowledged by United States Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, who served as host for the ceremony, included Republican allies. Of the three American religious leaders invited to speak, two were evangelical Christians and the other was an Orthodox Jewish Chabad rabbi. Every speaker at the ceremony upheld the view that Jerusalem belonged only and unambiguously to the State of Israel; no liberal or progressive voices were present to complicate that claim"-- Provided by publisher.
