Will the British people and government suffer this state of things to be perpetuated, until the intolerably oppressed objects are goaded to desperation to rid themselves of it? And shall British bayonets, in support of this hellish system, be imbrued in the blood of men so goaded on?' The governor states his opinion that it was essential to give the ecclesiastical, magisterial and military authorities an opportunity to comment, and now forwards papers expressing their opinions.
