- Dated '31 George II'. From 1709 onwards, any fundamental changes to the Company' s powers and privileges were made by Act of Parliament, but a few royal charters were issued in the eighteenth century that related to the Company' s powers in India. After the fall and recapture of Calcutta in 1756 and 1757, charters were issued to compensate the Company in some measure for its losses (see also IOR/A/1/80 and IOR/A/1/81).
