Description: This series (3 folders) consists of personal correspondence either to or from Walter Haller. The bulk of the series consists of letters Haller wrote to his wife, Betty, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. There are also several letters Betty wrote to her husband towards the end of 1945 as well as a letter from Haller’s mother. Locations include: aboard the SS William Hawkins in the South Pacific; Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; New York, New York; Port Arthur, Texas; and Italy. Two of the letters at the end of the series are undated and it is unclear when they were written.;Personal correspondence, military documents, photographs, and souvenirs from the service of Steward’s Mate Second Class Walter Haller, who was a Merchant Marine and served in the Mediterranean, European, and Pacific Theater of Operations. The collection is arranged into three series: I. Personal correspondence, January 1944-November 1944; II. Personal correspondence, January 1945-December 1945; III. Military and government documents, 1941-1945; and IV. Souvenirs, 1944-1946.
