Summary:
Description: Notice of Award of Decoration for T/Sgt Edward K. Fox who has earned the Distinguished Service Cross [DSC], second in prestige only to the Medal of Honor, for his actions on the Second Schweinfurt Raid. The citation reads as follows, "For exceptionally meritorious heroism while participating in a bombing mission over Germany, 14 October 1943. When the aircraft in which he was serving as engineer and top turret gunner was heavily attacked by large number of enemy aircraft, Sergeant Fox was painfully wounded by fragments of a cannon shell which exploded near his gun positions. In spite of his severe pain and loss of blood, Sergeant Fox remained at his post of duty for the duration of the one and one-half hour running battle against enemy fighters, relinquishing his position only after all danger from enemy attack had ceased. The heroism and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Fox on this occasion reflect the highest credit upon himself and the armed forces of the United States.".
