Summary:

Description: This series consists of letters, telegrams, and V-mails from John Baish, to his family. The bulk of the series consists of correspondence sent to Baish’s parents, John and Lina Baish, Dillsburg, Pennsylvania. Baish also wrote to his siblings Donald Baish, Private Charles R. Baish (Army Air Force), and Ruth Baish. The first letter in the series was written when Baish was training at Fort Benning, Georgia; however the bulk of the series chronicles Baish’s trip across the Pacific to New Guinea. In March 1943 Baish is at the Office of the Engineer, Engineer Intelligence Field Office, US Advanced Base, APO 929 during which he is censoring his own letters as he continues to do throughout his service. He then moves to the Office of the Chief Engineer at the USA FFE (United States Army Forces in the Far East), APO 501 in July 1943, but once again transfers to the Advance Sub-Base ‘D’, APO 929 in New Guinea. While in New Guinea, Baish writes about breaking up with his girlfriend from Australia, Dorothy McLaren, catching malaria, and general duties.
