Summary:
John Davis was born in November 1925 in Jennings, Louisiana. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces in 1943. He wanted to be a pilot, however, there were too many pilots so he trained as a mechanic working on B-17s. He was assigned to the 385th Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force and sent to Great Ashfield in England where he was tasked with repairing and replacing radios on B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers. After the Germans surrendered, Davis flew missions which provided food relief for the people of Holland. Davis was discharged in 1945 with the rank of Private and returned home to Jennings, Louisiana.
