Summary:

Howard Miskelly was raised on a farm and played basketball in school. When the war started, Miskelly was drafted upon turning 18 and sent to Camp Shelby for induction before being shipped to Camp Wolters for basic training. Miskelly took part in the Louisiana maneuvers during his training. Miskelly became a member of the 102nd Infantry Division, went to the UK on the Queen Mary and eventually entered mainland Europe. He first entered combat in Aachen. He also saw heavy combat crossing the Roer River, took part in house to house fighting in Krefeld, Germany and met the Russians at the Elbe River. Miskelly signed up for 6 months of additional overseas time and spent time in Germany and Czechoslovakia.
