Summary:

T4 Lillie Clark was born January 2, 1922 in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1943 when she turned 21 years old she enlisted in the WACS. She was a young African American woman and wanted to experience the world and have an adventure. She trained as a Medical Surgical Technician and was assigned to the 1447 Service Command Unit. She worked in hospitals assisting doctors and nurses. She was responsible for bathing patients, giving them their medications, changing their bandages and other hospital duties. She worked side by side with white doctors and nurses while providing care for both black and white patients. After work the black WACS were segregated from the white army personnel; however, she never felt like she was discriminated against. She was discharged in 1946 and returned to New Orleans, Louisiana.
