Summary:

Robert Dodson was born in New Orleans on 3 September 1926 and lived in Lakeview until he was sixteen years old before he moved to Utah to work in a government funded agriculture program. On his seventeenth birthday, Dodson joined the US Navy. He was initially assigned to LCI 752, which was a rocket boat vessel. He saw combat at Leyte where his ship was damaged by a bomb from a Japanese plane. He then was transferred to the nearby LCI 1056 and took part in the invasion of Luzon, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. At Iwo, his ship traveled in line with other LCIs and fired mortars onto the island at night, before the invasion. At Okinawa, took part in a fake landing and not the actual landing. Also, his ship participated in firing mortars on Ie Shima.
