Summary:
Philip Alterizio lied about his age and joined the New Jersey National Guard at 17 years old. His brother was initially in the same unit but they were eventually separated and Alterizio was sent to another unit. He landed in Italy as a truck driver in a replacement unit. He was later sent to Southern France where he was assigned to the 103rd Infantry Division as an MP in Division Headquarters. He served with that unit from late 1944 through the end of the war in 1945 when the unit was in Austria.
