- Description: Scrapbook, blue, cover illustration of an aircraft carrier. Contains 87 photographs. Highlights of the scrapbook include candid snapshots of airmen in Fighting Squadron 33 (VF-33, "Hellcats"); daily life and activities; living quarters and structures; battle damage and plane wreckage; island landscapes; transport and armored fighting vehicles; and numerous photographs of Grumman F6F Hellcat airplanes, including nose art, as well as aerial views of and from the planes. Other airplanes and vehicles: p. 2, Douglas C-47 Skytrain; p. 8, M4 Sherman; p. 14, Lockheed PV-1 Venture and Bell P-39 Airacobras. 28 blank sheets in bound scrapbook. Loose photographs from the scrapbook depict similar themes: a row of Curtiss P-40 Warhawks; 2 photographs of Consolidated PBY Catalinas; a Grumman F6F Hellcat; a Grumman TBF/TBM Avenger; native Papuan islanders; two graves, one identified as Japanese; and a sunken Japanese ship.
