- Description: Letter from Gordon Sill, Honshu, Japan, to Aunt Ted and Miles. Describes in Biblical phrasing teaching Japanese children to swear and make rude gestures, trading and souvenirs, food/chow, beer and whiskey. Writes that it's cold. The Japanese "Women will work all day for a couple of cans of rations and a candy bar." Discusses the effects of the atomic bomb on the landscape and people: "It seems as though the whole place just disintegrated. People are still suffering from burns- many dying." "If we little people ever allow ourselves to be led into another war by our cowardice, stupidity and ego (English-American) WE should be subjected to just such a thing as an atomic bomb." Provides a vivid description of "whore-hopping" with Japanese women in brothels in postwar Japan. Tells Aunt Ted not to mention it to his wife, Jean. Plans to be home in Washington within a few weeks.
