Description: Predominantly letters from Mary Chave, Oro Bay, New Guinea (APO 503) and Manila, Philippines (APO 707) to her parents in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Chave describes her life in New Guinea and the Philippines in florid detail, her friendship with Capt. Bill Marsh of the Australian Army, and her boss Gene Manley (later her husband). Includes menu from an Australian officers’ club; letter from her father describing a trip to New Orleans, as well as several other letters from both parents and sister; satirical poem about Franklin D. Roosevelt, entitled, "Oath of Allegiance for the New Order;" pencil sketch made by Bill Marsh of Chave’s hut; poem entitled "APO 503" (Oro Bay, New Guinea); copy of the periodical "Matson Line Wireless," cover story, "Yank Troops Invade Philippines," no date; programs for performance of The Manila Symphony Orchestra and the National Opera Company; breakfast menu for USAT Maui, 12 April 1945; a color illustration of her unit patch (Technical Intelligence) in the Philippines.;Correspondence from the service of Captain Mary Adele Chave Manley, who was a member of the Women's Army Corps (WAC) and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Other frequent topics include Chave's military work as a WAC officer; her practice of Christian Science; and budgets and pay. Nicknames for Chave's sister are "Bud" and "Snooks."
