Description: Predominantly letters from Mary Chave, Fort Des Moines, Iowa (after joining the WAC) to her parents in Shaker Heights, Ohio. In this series, she talks about her desire to join the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps as an ambulance driver. She describes in depth her day-to-day life and basic training, as well as officer corps training at Fort Des Moines, Iowa while employed as a reporter in the fort’s Public Relations Department. Includes a copy of a letter from Chave’s mother to the manager of the Christian Science Camp Welfare Activities, Boston, Massachusetts, asking that the Christian Scientist chaplain contact her daughter and supply her with copies of "Science and Health.";Correspondence from the service of Captain Mary Adele Chave Manley, who was a member of the Women's Army Corps (WAC) and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Letters are lively and discuss in depth life in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps. Other frequent topics include Chave's military work as a WAC officer; her practice of Christian Science; and budgets and pay. Nicknames for Chave's sister are "Bud" and "Snooks."
